Shopping with eVA punchout catalogs

What is a punchout Catalog?

How does a punchout Catalog work in eVA?

Why do sometimes I lose all of my items in my punchout shopping cart when I return to eVA?
Can you tell me some tips & tricks when using punchout catalogs?

  What is a punchout Catalog
A punchout site is a Vendor website setup for eVA users to shop for goods and services. It is accessed from the Catalog search screen within eVA.
punchout sites are popular for vendors because they can maintain their items themselves. Buyers prefer shopping with vendor punchout sites because the vendor can provide more information their products (such as pictures)
Do punchout sites have shopping cart software?
Yes and they look just like your typical shopping website.
Can you use the punchout site outside of the eVA system?
No, you must log in to eVA first.
How do I shop using a Vendor punchout site?
See
section 2 below, we will explain how there.

How does a punchout Catalog work in eVA?

punchout sites work just like most other internet shopping sites. The main difference is you are only using the site to add the vendor's items to your cart and bring them back to the eVA requisition. Once you have the items back in the eVA system complete your requisition and submit for approvals .
What if you need to add change or remove an item after you have left the vendors punchout site?
No problem! You can return to the vendors catalog and add more items and return to eVA simply by editing your requisition and click on the description on any item.

Why do sometimes I lose all of my items in my punchout shopping cart when I return to eVA?

This problem typically occurs when using Microsoft's IE 8 browser with the wrong browser settings.
While previous versions of Internet Explorer worked well with punchout sites, IE 8 has had problems because Microsoft introduced a new security setting to catch something called “cross site scripting” (also known as XSS or CSS). This feature tries to spot situations where one website is trying to use a program to send data/information to another website. This is exactly what happens when a punc-hout-site sends your shopping cart back to eVA. Most of our eVA punchout sites have disabled this XSS check through a setting on their website, but others have not.

Yes! There is a way to deal with this problem.

Solution - Bypass the error/warning message that comes up.

When you encounter this error you will see a warning message appear on your screen (see Example here) above the “Close punchout Catalog Shopping Session” message on your eVA screen and the bottom half of the screen will be blank that a “#” sign will appear. To get past this warning and finish normally within eVA:

- click the black bar link that says “Close punchout Catalog Shopping Session

The system will continue normally back into eVA and you will see all of the items that you selected on the punchout site.
