Browser Settings

 Browser Settings for     

Internet Explorer Version 8

WARNING:

If you are having a problem using eVA, you may need to change one or more of your browser settings. 

  • Note that your IT department might automatically reset your browser settings back to a certain standard. 
     

  • Changing your browser settings may make your computer behave differently on other websites.

For example, Clearing Saved Passwords or removing AutoComplete means the system will no longer fill in your user name and password for you.

TYPE OF SETTING

     STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS

Open the
'Internet Options' screen

Compatibility View Settings



 

On the menu bar

-  click on Compatibility View Settings

-  Under Add this website

-  type virginia.gov

-  click “Add”

-  check View all websites in Compatibility View

-  click “Close”

Open the
'Internet Options' screen

On the menu bar

-  click on "Tools"

-  then click on "Internet Options"

 

Stored Browser Pages

On the "General" tab

-  Under Browsing history click on the "Settings" button

-  If you receive an error message that starts with “The amount of disk space”

-  Click “OK”

-  Change the value in Disk space to use to 1024

-  Under Temporary Internet Files

-  make sure that "Every Time I visit to the webpage" is selected

-  click "OK"

Security Level

On the  Security tab

- click on "Internet" icon in the Web content zone section

- click on "Custom Level" button

- Under Miscellaneous

- check “Change Display Mixed Content from Prompt to Enable

- click “Ok”

- in Reset Customer Settings section, select 'Medium'

- click “Reset”

- click "OK"

- next, click on "Restricted Sites" in the Web content zone section

- click on "Sites" button

- review any entries in the "Web sites" box

- if eVA is listed then click on the eVA entry & click the "Remove" button

- click the "Close" button

- click "OK"

Cookie Handling

On the  Privacy tab

- click on the "Advanced" button

- Put a Check beside "Override Cookie Handling"

- Put a Check beside "Always allow session cookies"

Pop-ups

On the  Privacy tab

- Under Pop-up Blocker
- Remove the check in the box for Block pop-ups

AutoComplete and Saved Passwords

On the  Content tab 

- Under AutoComplete

- Click on the "Settings" button 

- Remove check from "User names and passwords on forms"

- Remove check from "Ask me before saving passwords"

- Click on “Delete AutoComplete history”

- Under Delete Browsing History

- Remove checks from each box – except “enter a check in Passwords”

- Click “Delete”

- Click “Ok”

Advanced Security

On the Advanced tab

-
Scroll down to the security section

- Make sure "Do not save encrypted pages to disk"
 
is not checked.

SAVE CHANGES Click "OK"
Close the Browser  Launch Internet Explorer (do not open a new tab or new window)

OTHER INFORMATION

AOL It is okay to use AOL to connect to the Internet, but the AOL browser will not work with eVA.

The solution is to stay connected through AOL, but to close the AOL browser and go to the Start button and Launch Internet Explorer.

Google
Toolbar –Pop-ups

If you use Google Toolbar:

To use eVA, you must allow Pop-ups. If you allow Pop-ups with your Internet Browser Setting, this does not turn off the Pop-up Blocker on the Google Toolbar.

To disable the Google Pop-up blocker

If your Toolbar has a wrench icon, follow these steps:
Click the wrench icon on your Google Toolbar.

1.    Click the Tools tab in the 'Toolbar Options' window.

2.    Deselect the 'Pop-up blocker' checkbox.

3.    Click the Save button.

Remember, Google Pop-ups must be allowed each time you launch
your browser while using eVA.
